Sam’s Place

Located in the Exchange District in Winnipeg, Sam’s is a social enterprise of MCC Manitoba; a vibrant cafe that equips and empowers young people toward meaningful employment.

With a new space at 140 Bannatyne Avenue came an opportunity to (re)introduce Sam’s Place to the local community.

Beginning with a brand that united its interior with a cup of coffee, a friendly smile, and a bridge to meaningful employment, we launched with photography, brand collateral, and an ambitious 6-week social media strategy.

Every year Sam’s trains 40 youth and young adults in Winnipeg, helping to empower, equip, and bridge the gap toward meaningful employment. We created a solution that wrapped a cup of coffee, a friendly smile, and a bridge all into one logo.

To strengthen its ties to the community we pulled colours from the buildings in The Exchange, creating a palette that conveys a sense of inclusivity, diversity, friendliness, and growth.

Sam’s Place is its people. We made sure to feature the friendly faces of the youth volunteers and incredible staff who make the cafe a place for all: to make mistakes, to feel empowered, to experience, to feel safe, and above all, to belong.

Leading up to opening day, we used Reels to create sneak peeks for the public. We created hype around the stunning space while showing what to expect from the menu, products, accessibility and atmosphere. The result: thousands of views that translated into a packed opening week (and beyond).
