A Zoo Fit For A King

On our last day in Stuttgart we ventured to the Stuttgart Zoo, Wilhelma. It’s the only zoological botanical gardens in all of Europe. Originally the gardens and buildings were built in the 19th Century to be home to the Swabian king, King Wilhelma I. He insisted that the architecture reflect the Moorish style that was popular at the time. With no expectation whatsoever we wandered through the maze of flowers, plants and animals, stopping to watch the elephants take their baths, see penguins swim and monkeys fight. Wilhelma certainly did not disappoint. It was absolutely beautiful and was a great way go spend our final day in Germany.
